We at the Hamilton County Law Library take the health and safety of our patrons very seriously. We wanted to update you about our ongoing response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The Law Library is currently open to our subscribers and the public at this time. However, this is subject to change based on guidance from courthouse officials, county administration and our own leadership should circumstance warrant. In the event of a closure, we will work to quickly notify subscribers via email, social media and a banner on our website.

The courthouse has suspended non-essential public gatherings, such as educational presentations and student tours. As such, we have canceled the March 18 Medicaid Planning CLE and notified registrants directly. We will work to reschedule that event later in the year. At this time, our May CLE should proceed as scheduled, but we will notify registrants and all subscribers as soon as possible if that changes. We are discouraging group meetings and conference room reservations at this time, as those are subject to cancellation should we need to close.

County Facilities has increased cleaning and disinfection of “high touch” areas in the building and our space. The County has also installed hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the courthouse, particularly near elevators. We also provide hand sanitizer for our patrons in the Law Library and disinfecting wipes are available in our computer lab.

We encourage our subscribers to take advantage of our remote services at this time. Many of our subscriber groups have remote access to several legal research databases as a benefit of subscription. However, even if your subscription does not provide this, please note that all subscribers can utilize our remote reference services by emailing our reference box at reference@cms.hamilton-co.org. The reference librarian on duty can assist you with research and send you materials from our legal research databases via email.

Should we close, it is our intention to continue providing remote research assistance to our subscribers in this same manner. While we would not be available on site to take your questions, we would remain accessible by email to help with research during our normal business hours.

We have temporarily suspended our notary service and are modifying our circulation practices. If you have print materials coming due, please do not return them to the Library at this time, but instead contact us at reference@cms.hamilton-co.org. Should the Law Library close, we will automatically renew any print materials currently checked out and waive any late fees which would have normally accrued during that time.

Thank you for your understanding. We will keep you informed as things develop.
