Friday Bill Round Up: Call Centers, Elder Fraud and More

Each Friday, we highlight some of the bills and resolutions introduced in the Ohio Legislature in the past week.

Call Centers

HB 245-Consumer Protection Call Center Act

House bill 245 would require the Department of Job and Family Services to compile a list of all employers that relocate a call center to a foreign country and disqualify employers on that list from state grants, loans, and other benefits.

Education

HB 240-Respect Your Date Act

This bill would designate the month of April as "Respect Your Date Month" and require each state institution of higher education to adopt a policy regarding dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and rape on campus and to declare an emergency.

Elder Protection 

SB 158-Combating Elder Fraud 

This bill would develop best practices and educational opportunities to combat elder fraud and exploitation and fine and require full restitution from offenders who are found guilty of certain fraud-related crimes against the elderly.

Health Care 

HB 241 Ohio Diabetes Registry

House bill 241 would establish the Ohio Diabetes Registry. The registry would be maintained by the Department of Health for epidemiological research.

HB 234-Health Facility Access Intimidation

This bill would criminalize impeding access to reproductive health care and create a cause of action for harassment or intimidation of one or more employees of a health care facility.
